Livable Buildings Award Jury 2012

Our awards jury includes these influential individuals from CBE's diverse membership.

CBE wishes to thank our distinguished jury of building industry representatives from CBE member firms. They took on the difficult task of identifying the top candidates from a number of strong finalist buildings. The jury for the 2012 awards include:

Jon Bittenbender

Building Technology Engineering Manager, REHAU Construction

Jon is the engineering manager for the Building Technology division of REHAU Construction LLC. Bittenbender joined REHAU in 1999 as an applications engineer. His current overall responsibilities include product development, codes and certifications, PEX production support and design of systems for REHAUís PEX-based applications including radiant heating and cooling, distribution piping, snow and ice melting, geothermal earth probes, plumbing and fire protection.

Prior to REHAU, Bittenbender worked for five years as a specifying engineer for an MEP firm designing HVAC systems for commercial and residential buildings. He received a bachelorís degree of Science in mechanical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University in 1993.

Grant French

LEED AP, Corporate Sustainability Manager, Swinerton

As Corporate Sustainability Manager, Grant provides data and intelligence to each office of the Swinerton Family of Companies, to stimulate and support the successful pursuit and execution of their Green and LEED projects. Grant provides input in the RFQ and Proposal Process for Green/LEED Projects and also serves as a Green resource throughout project delivery. Grant initiates and manages job-specific and LEED Accreditation Green Training Programs. On an ongoing basis, Grant works with various teams within the Swinerton Family of Companies, to evaluate and strive towards continual improvement in their jobsite and office sustainable practices.

John Holmes

Senior Technology Development Advisor, San Diego Gas & Electric

John is a Senior Technology Development Advisor with San Diego Gas & Electric and is focused on Customer Facing RD&D. He has been involved in transportation and energy research and development for two decades. His broad contributions to the evolution of electric and hybrid vehicle technologies as well as vehicle charging systems has advanced the introduction of vehicles and infrastructure into mainstream adoption. His systems engineering contributions to the advancement of end-use energy technologies have provided both the utility sector and utility customers with improvements in energy efficiency, demand reduction and consumption awareness. With the present evolution of customer engagements with the utility sector in both transportation and advanced energy technologies, Mr. Holmes current work takes a keen interest in how to integrate customer involvement in achieving reductions in energy use and emissions. Mr. Holmes holds a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Davis.

John Lyons

LEED AP BD+C, Manager of Sustainability, DIALOG

As DIALOGís Manager of Sustainability, John helps clients navigate sustainable design opportunities by identifying the most salient options and framing decisions within a financial context. John leverages his engineering and business expertise to advise clients on the most sensible long-term options, both in terms of their environment outcomes, and their impact on the clientís bottom line. John brings this unique background to integrated design discussions, helping move projects towards the forefront of sustainability and resilience.

John has led a team in exploring design strategies to effectively eliminate GHG emissions from the national retail branch network of one of Canadaís largest banks. Specific sustainability initiatives for building envelope, mechanical systems, and electrical systems were modeled and analyzed for both energy efficiency and financial impacts.

Janika McFeely

LEED AP BD+C, Designer, EHDD

Janika brings to EHDD an extensive research background in sustainable design issues in addition to her architectural qualifications. Since joining the firm in 2007, Janika has directed the LEED certification process for all office projects, which include a wide range of building typologies from exhibit-related and educational facilities to civic and commercial environments. Janika most recently participated in the design of the new Zero Energy office building for the Packard Foundation in Los Altos, CA, which is seeking a LEED Platinum certification as well as the Lands End Lookout in San Francisco, CA, which is pursuing LEED Gold.

Teresa Rainey

PE, LEED AP BD+C, Associate Director, SOM

Teresa is an Associate Director in the Washington, DC office of SOM. She is a licensed professional engineer with experience in the design of HVAC systems for commercial, institutional and federal buildings. Teresa is a LEED Accredited Professional and Building Security Certified Professional, with expertise in developing appropriate integrated mechanical system solutions to achieve the desired high-performance building goals and established building safety and security requirement. Her involvement as a voting member of ASHRAE/USGBC/IESNA SSPC 189.1 Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings; a GSA National Peer; and a member of the Building Security Council Certification Development Committee establish her as an industry leader in the design of high performance buildings.
