Jovan Pantelic, PhD

Assistant Professional Researcher

Jovan Pantelic, Ph.D., is Assistant Professional Researcher at the Center for Built Environment. His current research interests include radiant cooling, liquid desiccant dehumidification, HVAC system decentralization and integration, indoor airflows, and sampling and characterization of aerosol sources in the indoor environment.

Jovan received his diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 2004, and then pursued his Masters degree in Thermal Engineering while working as a junior engineer in the A&E consultancy firm. In 2010, Jovan received his Ph.D. degree at the National University of Singapore. Jovan worked as a Research Associate at University of Maryland at College Park from 2012 to 2014 on the development of technologies for air sampling and quantifying Influenza shedding rates in indoor environments. From 2014 to January 2016, he worked at ETH Zurich and Princeton University as a Research Associate on implementing and developing low exergy technologies including hydronic cooling, decentralized ventilation system and liquid desiccant.

Jovan's research was conducted in the field of Healthy and Energy Efficient Buildings. Healthy buildings aspect of Jovan's research was focused on investigation of airborne mode of influenza transmission by quantifying source strength and investigating capabilities of ventilation systems to mitigate airborne transmission. Building Energy Efficiency aspect of Jovan's research was focused on decoupling of demands and developing specific technologies to address each of them effectively. Jovan worked on developing personalized ventilation air terminal devices. Jovan conducted research on utilization of water system for cooling with emphasis on radiate cooling and worked on development of membrane based liquid desiccant dehumidification. Jovan was mechanical engineer in the ETH design team that implemented 3for2 concept in the tropical climate and created the most energy efficient office in Singapore.
